One of the most illuminating activities was to teach Ogloids about phonetics and how to map from the spoken word to the written word. As we do not yet have a truly representative written language it is a learning task that needs to be done time and again.
One of the things that causes most confusion is the use of the same phonetic word to mean multiple things. Such as meat and meet. It may be a useful in certain circumstances, but it can lead to confusion if the alien race only has spoken language to work from. And not just comedic confusion, confusion with serious consequences.
